For those of you who don't know Cyberpunk 2077 was a game released in December of 2020 and people were excited. The game was hyped for months prior and had around 8 million preorders. CD Projekt Red promised amazing graphics, an interesting story, and Keanu Reeves. It looked incredibly promising and then... release date. It was riddled with bugs and glitches and some of those glitches were game breaking. The reviews were in and the game was considered one of the biggest release flops in gaming history. I'm here to say... it's not that bad.

As an avid fan of the game from day one (and also someone who played Mass Effect: Andromeda), I've lived through the glitches and the problems but CD Projekt Red has kept with it. They put their heart and soul into the game and they're not giving up on it yet. We've been given a load of updates and patches and people have been coming back to take a stab at it. The company has and is still going to lengths to show that when they promised an amazing game, they intended on making it.
But I'm not here to tell you about all the patches and updates - at least nothing more than the bare minimum to make it playable. Nope. The Plot Point is here to talk about the best part of the game and that's the story and the characters. I said that they put their heart and soul into the game and I meant it and that's not just clear through their ongoing efforts to bring the game back up to standards but the depth they put into the story. Not just the main plot, but the side quests. I haven't found a lot of games that test the boundaries of uncomfortable in a real way like Cyberpunk has.

The writers knew exactly what they wanted to show and how to do it. It shows what a cybernetic reality might look like and what it would mean for the people who lived there. The characters live in a city that walks a thin line between real and not and they don't just accept it. You'll find characters who've decided to forgo the hardware and live as naturally as possible and characters who are hardly flesh and bone. Then you have the characters who don't really care about that at all. Then there are just people being people. My personal favorite is a man who lost his... well... and you're asked to drive him to the nearest doctor.
Cyberpunk was, undeniably, an unfinished game when it was released. It was nearly unplayable and people knew that. Over a year later and CD Projekt Red put in the effort and the love that the game deserved. With the glitches being fixed and the game still being updated and worked on, I'm here to tell you there's hope on the horizon. Cyberpunk 2077 is an amazing game. It's well through out and fun. You can tell how much the company wanted this game to work and they still do. So with that, try it out. If you haven't traded it in, dust off that old copy, let it update, and give it a try.
